Traffic Lights - Seemingly A Menace But Useful In Reality

I was thinking about traffic lights and how much a lot of drivers dislike them whether in the civilized world or third world especially when one is in a hurry to get from one place to the other. It feels even worse because drivers are not told how long each light stays on for. As on races toward the light, One hopes the green light stays on until one gets to it and that the red light is not on forever if it is on when one gets to the stop. Only those who control the lights know the length of time for which each light is on and they switch them one on and off depending on what they think is best for the traffic situation at a particular time. Sometimes I wish the green light would stay on just a little longer for me and at other times I wish the red light would stay on just a little longer just so that I can catch up with that "annoying driver" who sped past me thinking he is smart. All we can ever do as drivers is wish we could control the lights while yet remaining under the control of those who control the lights since we have no control over them. Of course indisciplined people refuse to obey the lights and sometimes pay very dearly for that. The fact that you escaped once does not always mean you will.

Proverbs 29: 1MSG "For people who hate discipline and only get more stubborn, There’ll come a day when life tumbles in and they break, but by then it’ll be too late to help them."

The road is just like life. Sometimes the roads are so smooth and we are so certain we know them so well that we want to just fly across. After all, we say to ourselves, we have been down that route several times so we know the twists and turns on the road forgetting that several other things could change. Driving involves more than the road and your car. That is the story of life. There are several other factors involved in one's life than one can control. The truth is it is not entirely up to you. We speed past other road users thinking we are so smart and wondering why they seem to be crawling when they could have gone faster. Sometimes their cars may even have problems which make them slower but we are so unmindful of their challenges as we speed past that we are super excited forgetting that there could be traffic lights just in front. These traffic lights are what I call life "levelers" working to ensure that everybody has equal advantage as a road user. Please don't get too excited as you seem to overtake some people so that when they meet up with you, you won't be too sad. Remember that you are not in control of the lights; whoever is, can be likened to He who is in control of time and chance.

Ecclesiastes 9: 11 "I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time."

God is in control of time and chance; be assured that He orchestrates it all so well that no one is cheated. I know we feel cheated by life from time to time but we are not. It's just that one man's season may have to wait a little longer than others. In my opinion, the traffic lights are like those situations, circumstances and/or challenges that God uses to ensure that we don't destroy ourselves. Tough as they may seem sometimes especially when we seem to be racing through life, they are not meant to be a threat. The green light will always come in so that anyone who feels like their lives have come to a stop should be patient; without a shard of doubt I can tell you that the green light is about to come on. I wonder how our lives would have turned out without those "traffic light situations." I see very often, people who refuse to obey the traffic sign signs crash their cars. The sad thing is that they sometimes kill innocent people who have right of way and foolishly assume that everyone will behave as they ought to. It is foolish to assume so because the world is full of believers who would not "go down" alone but must take down other believers with them. We must be wise and very vigilant.

1 Peter 5: 8 "Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour."

The good thing about having to stop at these traffic lights is that it is a good time to take a deep breathe and make any adjustments and/or quick repair you may need to make but missed because you were rushing. This reminds me of how God told the children of Israel they could only move when the cloud had lifted from their tent of worship and sometimes the cloud would just not lift for a while which meant they had to remain in a particular place until it moved again. Sometimes we feel the need to keeping moving and may not even check to see if we are on the wrong lane or something has gone wrong with the car until we are compelled to. Let us not lament or complain and murmur when we come to the stop signs In "life traffic light" situations. Instead, let us do a quick introspection of our lives at such times as we wait on the green light to be turned on with a knowing that it will surely come on.

Can We Be Friends Without Communicating? Prayer Is A Must!

As I ponder this evening on the hymn that says "what a friend we have in Jesus" I am truly amazed at the quality of friend that He is. I have never known any other friend like Him or even close to Him. It is one thing to be saved and just experience Him as Saviour but another thing to have Him as a friend which is His desire. Jesus wants to have the kind of relationship with us that qualifies us to be called His friends and He makes it clear that all it takes is obedience to Him. Anyone that makes it to friendship with Him must commune with Him because friendship is a relationship which suggests communion. Can people be friends who do not have a relationship? How can anyone claim to be friends with a God that they don't talk to? Let no man deceive you, without an effective prayer life, the believer is not enjoying the full benefits of salvation because His relationship with God is not as it ought to be.

John 15: 14 "You are my friends if you do what I command."

As I often say, life itself presents challenges so that we are often faced with one challenge or the other for which we need help, counsel and/or support. Who do you turn to in those seemingly dark moments when no one can understand the depths of the burden you bear or when life seems to want to overwhelm you? Who is the anchor of your hope? It makes such a huge difference just knowing that one has a friend whom they can share with; a friend who will give sincere and unbiased counsel. I can tell you for certain that man will fail you from time to time, and that includes even the best of men. Only the man whom the Lord sends to you using Him as His arm to you will not fail because He has lent Himself to God and such a person would Himself be one who communes with God. Man is by His very nature fickle, but God is steadfast. He is the friend that never fails and will go through "thick and thin" with us never forsaking us. How does does one keep from talking to a friend like that? He is that friend that you can totally open up to and be certain that He will never take advantage of you.

1 Thessalonians 5: 17 "Never stop praying."

Do not be deceived, Prayer is not about being "spooky spiritual" like people like to make it sound neither is it for a certain group of people nor do you have to attain to a certain level in your walk with God to take prayer seriously. Don't let anyone make you feel like you are acting funny because you live a life of prayer. It should be a normal way of life to turn to our friend Jesus at all times and with regard to all things. I have found that the more actively we commune with Him, the less frustrated we are and the more peace we enjoy. Interestingly, communing with Him cost us nothing. We don't have to pay huge phone bills or drive anywhere. We can talk to Him just where we are and He will hear and answer us. Moreover, He also wants to be a part of our decision making; thinking with us and guiding our decision making right so He is eager to hear us. There are so many advantages to talking to God about everything that no one should makes us feel funny for talking to God so much. Jesus is a burden bearer and you pass on the burden by talking to Him. He already knows about it but wants to us to share it with Him as friends do and then He steps in.

Luke 18: 1 "One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up."

Don't let anyone make you feel that prayer is tedious or burdensome. That has been the devil's way of cheating us out of the benefit of having an awesome friend like Jesus. It has been a trick of the devil for so long and we can not remain ignorant of these tricks of the devil. It has prevented a number of people from building that right relationship with God and created a disconnect between us and our most treasured friend for too long which must stop. Who can really go forward in life bearing burden that satan wants us to bear? We also need all the information from God to enable us have good success and also remain the head; all that information comes in the place of communion. It is never too late to build on your relationship with God. He is hoping that you will.

Come And Find Peace In The Prince Of Peace

It is amazing how peace appears to have become so elusive in the world we live in today. Man is searching for peace his entire life and some die never knowing peace. It is even more painful when one is reminded that the Prince of peace stands at the door of every man's heart and knocks on the door of our hearts waiting for the door to be opened to Him that we may enjoy peace but very few open the door and of that number, fewer still give Him room to actually take charge of their lives so that they can have and enjoy the peace that is beyond understanding. The quest for peace has led people into several different things, from drugs to alcohol and so on. Other people have moved from place to place and changed spouses several times over because they wanted peace and yet peace eludes them. Just when they think they have it, then they don't have it anymore. The truth is nothing can or gives peace. The fullness of Peace is a personality that needs to indwell one for them to enjoy peace in their mind and His name is Jesus.

Isaiah 9: 6 "For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

There is an African adage that says it is possible to buy peace with money but seeing and living amongst wealthy people I have found that money does not buy everlasting peace. If it appears like it did, I assure you it is momentary and you will have to keep buying more and more peace until you exhaust the money and find that you are still in need of peace. This is the peace that the world gives which is only momentary. Real peace comes from deep within and is not impacted by what is going on around you or even in your life. It is a calmness in a man's spirit that impacts his soul and which comes from knowing that The All-knowing and All-powerful God is in control of your life despite that your life may seem so scattered it looks a mess. Peace is tied to hope; it cannot be bought. Any man who has not hope can not have peace. It is a gift from God.

John 14: 27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid."

There is no man on earth or who has passed through earth who will not go through storms. The prince of the power of the air knows not peace; it is in his nature to create storms in life where we all exist; these things will impact us one way or the other but the man that has Christ deals differently in stormy situations. He is calm like the three Hebrew boys who though were in fire, walked around in it with Jesus as their companion. I know for certain that Jesus could have put out the fire but He didn't, instead He came into the heat with them and made it comfortable for them until they were brought out. He gave them peace in the fire and that is the life we live as believers. Whilst yet in the fire, God causes us to triumph over the fire which is something the enemy can never understand. I must admit that I sometimes wish He would put out the fire since He can but He doesn't; instead, He chooses to be glorified in it. The ways of God are definitely different and we must accept that reality. Enjoying the peace that is everlasting is a decision and requires some deliberateness.

Philippians 4: 7 "Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus."

Seeing as that Jesus is Prince of peace, why do believers loose their peace and make decisions in the flesh. It is sad to note that some of us even think it is okay to loose our peace and find believers who enjoy peace in the midst of storms, very strange. It ought not to be so. We ought not to be numbered amongst those who search for peace in things and places; for that is the portion of the wicked. In the midst of the storms of life, we must learn to look up to the author and finisher of our faith - The Prince of Peace. We must be able to draw strength from Him? I dare to suggest that the reason we suffer loss of peace as believers is carnality? We get so carnal that though we are believers we are unable to connect with the Prince of peace enough to enjoy the peace that He is. If you don't have a relationship with Him or our relationship with Him is broken then His peace cannot be imparted to us. This peace is communicated to our spirit which passes it on to our souls. I am talking about a relationship that starts with salvation but deepens way beyond that. I have found that the more one knows Him, the more at peace one is.

2 Thessalonians 3: 16 "Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all."

I want to remind every believer that peace is a gift to us from God which we must take advantage of. Lack of peace is not an option for you and I especially in the world we live in today. It won't get easier as we approach the last days so we need to draw on the peace that God has made available to us. We must search for peace in the right place and live our lives such that we can draw on that peace.
