Paying attention to details makes a huge difference.

I cannot pretend to be one of the most organized people but i must say that we as believers will make greater impact in our environment if we are able to pay greater attention to details. We often joke about not having the ability to pay attention to details and make it seem like people who pay attention to details are strange when they are only acting like their God.  if we must go forward and move the world forward in terms of development, then we need to Learn to pay attention to details.

Paying attention to details sounds like a very little thing but I have found that missing a tiny detail has the capacity to impact on something so badly that one is left wondering as to how a thing so small can make such a huge difference. It is sad to note that believers are some of the greatest culprits. We often have a careless attitude toward things believing that it is God's responsibility to resolve the issues that arise as a result of our carelessness. Unfortunately, we often reap the recompense of our carelessness and worse is the fact that it makes us mediocre. Mediocrity is far below the level at which God would have us operate; operating at that level would make us miss out on the best of God since He will never be mediocre.

In truth,  if we must walk at the level of excellence we have been called to, then we must begin to pay attention to those things we consider the tiny details. Though tedious, paying attention to the little details takes one above ordinary. It makes an ordinarily simple person outstanding which is what we are made to be. When David wanted to build a temple for God and God said he shouldn't, David ensured that he got the best of materials together for the temple. He even imported some of the materials from other Countries which produced the best of these materials and today that temple is still remembered for its outstanding architecture and/or beauty. God wants His children to be like outstanding.

Joshua 9: 14-15 "So the Israelites examined their food, but they did not consult The Lord. Then Joshua made a peace treaty with them and guaranteed their safety, and the leaders of the community ratified their agreement with a binding oath."

I understand that this may be a bit tough but the Holy Spirit can help us with learning to pay attention to details for it is the nature of the Godhead. The Holy Spirit does things excellently and there can be no excellence if one does not pay attention to details. Whenever God instructed that anything be built, He gave very detailed description paying attention to all the details. If the Almighty God, creator of the universe, the one who sees all things at all times pays such attention to details then we who are made in His image and likeness should desire excellence and possess the ability to pay attention to details. God is so careful about the details that despite His skill, during creation, He checked everything He made again to ensure that there were no errors.

Genesis 1: 10b "And God saw that it was good."

If like our God we become more painstaking, I believe we would suffer less loss and also move the world forward. I understand that most of the men who invented the things that currently facilitate a good lifestyle for us were believers. Why then are we not now inventing things anymore? Why are we no longer the ones moving the world forward and making this a better place for people to live in. If Esau had cared enough to understand the details of Jacob's request in asking for his birthright, he may not have given it up for a bowl of pottage. If Joshua had taken time to investigate the beggarly people who came to him to seek help, he would not have covenanted with them. The details make a huge difference. We cannot afford to continue to suffer loss because we refuse to learn to pay attention to details.

  1. Well said. I believe not paying attention to details can even cost us dearly in our relationships, our businesses and general self development. It is actually laziness and carelessness that causes this attitude. We are too lazy to go that extra mile. No one ever achieved greatness by not paying attention to details. Like one pastor said, greatness cost what it cost.
